Murder In (2014)

From MHz Choice:

A gorgeous collection of mysteries, each one set in a different, picturesque region of France. Enjoy French towns and areas you may never have seen before!

From MHz Choice you can stream 9 seasons of this wonderful French crime series. Each season offers 9 episodes. Each episode lasts an hour and a half.

Not only is the scenery beautiful, but the stories are excellent. Despite each being a murder mystery,  equally important in each episode are personal relations and history.  There is always a male and female police detective. Often they have been in a relationship. Quite often one or both detectives are from the story’s region of France.  Sometimes an actor will appear in more than one episode.

Some episodes are better than others, but none has disappointed us.

The Other Me (2022)

From IMDB:

An architect is diagnosed with a rare eye disease, entering him into a surreal reality in which he sees people’s true motives. As the visions become intolerable, he falls for a mysterious woman and confronts the truth about his own identity.

From Amazon Prime you can stream this 1 hour 48 minute complete film.   Characters and acting are well done.  However,  at times it may not be completely clear what is happening.

If you watch this film, let me know your take on the ending.

One of Us (2016)

From Amazon Prime:

A horrific double murder shocks two families living in isolated rural Scotland. In the aftermath of the tragedy, they are faced with a terrible dilemma when the murderer arrives on their doorstep one stormy night. His fate lies in their hands – will they show mercy or get their revenge?

From Amazon Prime you can stream the 4 one-hour episodes of the only season available for this British murder story.   Hiding guilt is the main theme of the series. Familiar British actors include Juliet Stevenson as Louise Elliott and John Lynch as Bill Douglas.

Well worth watching.

The IT Crowd (2006)

From Amazon Prime:

“Roy and Moss toil in the squalid basement of a huge company, fielding IT help desk calls. Roy has a lousy attitude coupled with an eye for the ladies, while Moss is dressed by his mother and has an aerosol can of water clipped to his belt with which to spray his ear when it gets hot. Into their life of ‘users’, pizza, science fiction and firewalls comes middle manager Jen, a spunky can-do career gal who doesn’t know one end of a laptop from the other. Can she introduce real life to men who email the fire brigade in an emergency, who invent a psycho for an internet dating site and display sympathetic PMS symptoms once a month? ‘The IT Crowd’. It’s more than a way of life, it’s a sitcom. ”

From Amazon Prime  you can stream 5 seasons of this British comedy series.  Seasons 1 thru 4 contain 6 episodes. Season 5 seems to consist of only 1 episode. Each episode lasts about 22 minutes.

UNFORTUNATELY Amazon makes you pay for the privilege of watching these episodes. Originally I watched them for free on Netflix.  Keep a lookout on other streaming sources for the chance to laugh a lot at these quirky characters.

The Job Lot (2013)

From Amazon Prime:

Sarah Hadland (Miranda) and Russell Tovey (Him & Her) star in this ensemble comedy about a West Midlands job center, dealing with work – or the lack of.

From Amazon Prime you can stream 3 seasons of this British comedy series. Each season has 6 episodes. Each episode lasts about 22 minutes.

Looking for a few good belly laughs?  If you like British humor, this is the comedy series for you. Among the many actors Russell Tovey stands out not only for his comedic skill but for his ears which stick out so far you think that at any minute they might flap and he will fly into the air.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)

From IMDB:

Two con men try to settle their rivalry by betting on who can swindle a young American heiress out of fifty thousand dollars first.

From Kanopy and Amazon Prime you can stream this 35 year old comedy which lasts 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Needless to say, if one of the actors is Steve Martin, we are probably talking about a comedy.  Michael Caine is the perfect matchup against Martin.

Old but still lots of fun and plot surprises.

Dressed to Kill (1980)

From IMDB:

A mysterious blonde woman kills one of a psychiatrist’s patients, and then goes after the high-class call girl who witnessed the murder.

From Kanopy or Amazon Prime you can stream this 43 year old film starring Michael Caine and Angie Dickinson.

While watching this vintage film, I was struck by how young the actors were,  how sexually daring this film must have seemed way back then, how acting has changed, and what a good story and plot shock the film still provides.

Give this piece of film history a try.

Silent Hours (2021)

From IMDB:

Private detective John Duval, an ex-lieutenant commander in the Royal Navy and Naval Intelligence, finds himself the prime suspect in a police hunt for a sexual killer when three women are brutally murdered.

From Amazon Prime you can stream this 2 hour 35 minute complete film.  Another version of “Silent Hours” exists which is a series.

Follow the complicated clues interspersed with lots of sexual flash backs.   Why are serial killer stories often so intriguing?

The Snowman (2017)

From IMDB:

Detective Harry Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman whose scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman.

From Netflix you can stream this 2 hour film adaptation of one of Jo Nesbo’s serial killer thrillers featuring the damaged detective Harry Hole.

Jo Nesbo has written 13  novels whose main character is the Norwegian Detective Harry Hole.  Harry is a very smart alcoholic with a damaged love life and failed family structure.  Personally I am hooked on his stories.

You know what to expect from an exceptional cast of actors.
